Power of Attorney

karibi

We are currently purchasing some land, which the EDB has now approved. We are now being told that we need to visit Mauritius so that the deeds of sale can be signed at the notary's office.

We are off the island at the moment. Does anybody know if it is possible to grant an individual Power of Attorney to sign the documents on my behalf?

Thanks

Hello.

I would not use a POA for an important and expensive purchase. You should visit and sign the deeds of sale personally to make sure everything is done properly and in your name.

Best wishes.

You can give your notary or agent POA for the purposes of purchasing the land. You should be able to do a POA from wherever you are. Look up a precedent/form for POA, type it up & get it witnessed by a notary wherever you are. Get a couple of certified copies at the same time in case. Send it to your notary here so he can sign for you. Make sure POA is specific about what powers you give him.

I would tend to agree with this. When money is involved, trust can be short lived and litigation here is a very slow process. Be very careful.
