I thought that in the last budget it was passed that there could be no denial outright of visitors or Mauritians over 65 years old and it was certainly an item that was noted in this forrum

-Medical patients and retirees as well as up to two accompanying caretakers will be eligible to a premium visa

-Retired non-citizens applying for Residence Permit will not be required to open a local bank account in the initial stage

-Foreign retirees above 60 years old will have access to medical insurance

I had also thought that the local providers would have changed their offerings.  So far, only MUA has given a positive reply for someone over 65.

I suggested to SWAN that they review their policy on only 65 and under. I’m not holding my breath.

It seems like blatant age discrimination to me, which is such a pity and backward step on their part!

It appears that this happens within the medical insurance industry across the world. If you have the cover before 65 the provider you are ok, but you cannot apply for cover for the first time if you are above 65.

My wife and I have cover through an international provider. But, I will meet with MUA about obtaining cover locally.

They did take my mum at 65 years old

Just tried the Eagle online portal which stated that the maximum age of the applicant is 64

Looks like MUA are the only local option.

I thin the main problem is that health insurance only ever lasts for one year, after which it has to be renewed. And if you are too old (maybe 70 or 75 vears?) it can happen that it is no longer renewed and you are left without health insurance.

@John0356 That's a question I asked myself too - unfortunately without any answer yet. Maybe someone else here knows more...

@Novalis1 It seems like we will not see it change any time soon.

The MUAS insurance is OK and I could get it at age 77 it's almost 4 x cheaper than my Allianz/Aetna insurance which runs US$8500 annually...but there is a big catch...

You can't claim certain things, cardio, cancer etc...until you have been on it for 2 years.

Quite a risk for an elder!

Maybe it would be just a year if you we say pre 70 years old. One would have to ask.
