I don't know about Egypt, but it should be pretty straightforward. What you must consider instead, is the fact that your daughter is now British by descent by being born abroad. She WON"T be ablel to pass her nationality to her children, unless she is settled in UK at time of their birth.

This is something many British expatriates miss out.

I know a couple Danish / British, they were unmarried at the time of the birth of their daughter (who was born is Switzerland). Well, the child is now stateless, because her mother is a British citizen born abroad, and Denmark does not pass nationality to children of unmarried fathers!!!

I think your guess might be right! I love that website for its brutal honesty from its long-standing members but they can be very harsh to newbies they give it to you straight, no doubt about that!

Anyway for anyone interested in this matter in the future...

I have used one of the listed translators in Heliopolis, they were efficient and not to costly.
Registering a birth is relatively easy... make sure you have all the documents listed on the UK in Egypt website, including your translated papers and application form.

As of September 2012, the cost is 1700LE; 1050LE for the registration and 650LE for a certified copy.

You pay when you hand in the documents BUT have to return after 5 working days to COLLECT the certificate! This part is NOT mentioned on the website, so for people that don't live in Cairo and have to travel for hours to get to Garden City AND take a day off work, keep this in mind!!

I will post again once the passport application has been sent off, again for any interested.

But after all this I would recommend, HAVE YOUR BABY IN THE UK much less hassle in the long run!!

I have used a translator St George's they were very good and the quicker you want it done the more it cost. I had a marriage certificate translated the said 100 egyptian pound for 3 days 200 egyptian pound for 1 day or 400 egyptian pound to have it done in a hour hope this helps

I just wonder how can a woman marry to foreigner ..planning family..then and have children, and after all just start to care, what are these rights by law in individual countries, legal process and what citizenship will have her descendants.
Where you girls lost your mind? Then I hear hundreds of stressed women even cry when they facing problem with child documents or by divorcing.

Firstly mosu I'm sure no one marries with the thought in their mind that they might end up being divorced.

Secondly I would suggest not 'wondering' about why people marry someone from a different country to their own.
For someone who has seemed to have traveled to a lot of countries, I think your question is a bit ignorant.

MrsIsmail, I meant it not just to you but to all make such steps to marriage oou of your country, have families and then start care how to deal with all stuff about documents, kids etc. I don't think anyone who go to marry would think himself it could finish in divorce, but we are not small children and we not aliens, right? Adult know what is life about. If I make wrong steps is my fault and if I'm not mother that time nothing more happened then hurt myself. But if I adult enough to make kids I must take all responsibility not just for me , but at first for them. And we live in 21 century where information is easy to find and we can plan it and decide every important step we make with maximum information before, so we eliminate unpleasant surprises and troubles that can occur in the future, especially when it comes to the law and legislation among different countries. I've lived in more countries than I have only on profile and that's why I more think that its not ignorance be realistic and be prepared
Hope you find your way how to solve it fast. In this point I can't help as many countries have different rules in the legislative.

Sure, your point of being prepared beforehand is a smart idea BUT sometimes life is too much fun and busy to be worrying about things that don't concern one at that moment in their life.
People tend to worry about things WHEN it then concerns them in their life.

If you comment wasn't meant for me then why post it under my post? Why don't you start a new thread to get other people asking your questions.

Plus I will point out, your statement of "Hope you find your way how to solve it fast." clearly shows to me that you don't read my comments correctly, as I already stated yesterday that I have now COMPLETED the process.
If you re-read my original post, I ask the question "Has anyone..." because I wanted to hear of other peoples personal experiences in this matter. I already have every single website with all the information I needed, but sometimes the personal experiences contain the reality of things.
