5. St. John's Co-Cathedral
Originally the base for the Malta Knights in the late 16th century, the cathedral has become a sort of museum, hosting some of the most impressive works of art from all ages of Maltese history. There's almost too much to see in a single visit, so be prepared to return time and time again.

4. Valletta
Just⦠Valletta. There are so many different attractions (including St. John's) in this gorgeous city that you should really take a day or a weekend to simply explore it all. You can start by browsing through a few of the city's historical or art museums, then take a break and have lunch at a waterfront restaurant. In the afternoon, take a tour of the cities ruins and ancient churches, then finish by having dinner in any of the scenic outdoor bistros that line the historic streets.
3. Hal Saflieni Hypogeum
This ancient underground necropolis in Paola is carved into solid rock, and features some of the most otherworldly (or perhaps underworldly) views you could hope to see in a lifetime. Due to conservation efforts, you must book your visit in advance, but it's well worth the extra effort. After walking through the tombs, you'll truly have a feel for how the ancient Maltese lived.
2. The Beaches
Malta has some of the most stunning beaches in the world. While natives may take them for granted, expats will see them in all of their exotic and untamed beauty. Massive natural rock formations and sapphire blue waters are the hallmarks of the Mediterranean shorelines, and Malta's are among the most beautiful. You can make it a day trip with your family, or if you work close by the ocean, simply enjoy the peaceful view during your lunch.

1. Shipwrecks
Perhaps the most amazing experience Malta has to offer is its unique diving. Tens of thousands of tourists and divers travel to Malta each year to look at the breathtaking underwater sights. While the Mediterranean ocean itself is reason enough to suit up, what makes Malta's diving truly marvelous are the ancient shipwrecks off of the coast. When you step off of the boat, you're stepping back in time to another world.
It's no wonder Malta has such a thriving tourism industry, given these and the scores of other experiences that didn't make this list. But while tourists certainly leave with memories that will last a lifetime, they'll never be able to get the full view that residents can. Make sure that you make the most of your life in Malta by giving yourself the full experience.
