How is the situation in Bulgaria?

Hello,

How is the situation in Bulgaria, concerning corona? I have red that only 25% of the people are vaccinated and that there hasn't been any lock down. It seams that the Bulgarians are not that enthusiastic about the vaccines.

Does this lead to tensions and discussions in the country?
Does this mean, that most people trust their natural immunity?
What is the average opinion, about corona and how to deal with it?
What is the government's opinion?

I would like to retire in Bulgaria, not only because of low living costs. I would also like to live in a society where friendliness counts and tight social relations are important (with less ego). Reading about Bulgaria, gives me the impression that people are there for each other and are more united, than in Western Europe.

hi,
This thread is going to be closed by an admin soon . apparently having a discussion about jabbing and immune systems are treated as a political dispute,

I don't live there   yet, but I am moving to this country soon and one of the reasons is the nation's approach towards cov... They are really believing in their immune system, this is what I was told by many .

This is an exact impression I got of Bulgarians when i visited few years back.

The thread will not be touched because of personal opinions or a desire to move to a country without vaccines.
However nut job conspiracy stuff will go.

If you have something to say about vaccines causing harm, post a link to a non-political medical site that proves it.

"Lock down" is variably applied in different countries. Bulgaria has entry restrictions based on the "green pass" (or vaccine passport) for entry into various public venues (including larger shops, malls, restaurants, cafes, etc.). There is a mask mandate in effect too in various places.

The green pass requirement was recently introduced due to the rising level of Covid infections and deaths. The Bulgarian metric for "red zone" countries has been surpassed in all districts of Bulgaria - so they are all now classified as red.

Last week they reported the highest number of deaths (1,000) for the whole pandemic period. This is the highest per capita deaths in the EU, on a weekly basis, according to one of the news outlets here. They also reported that 95% of these deaths were unvaccinated patients.

The whole country red, and the highest per capita deaths... well, you may think it's just unfortunate, or mere coincidence. Others may see it as connected to the country's high levels of vaccine skepticism.

As of this writing, only 0.5% have received a 3rd booster dose. And only 23% have been fully vaccinated. These are, officially, the lowest levels of all EU countries.

Regardless of whether you think this is a good thing, or a bad thing, I'd argue it's a rather weak basis for choosing a country to retire to... or as a way of generalizing about the other qualities such folks have.

Personally, I can say that my village neighbours are lovely. Friendly, helpful, and often offering me fresh fruit and vegetables from their gardens. But not one has gone anywhere near a Covid vaccination needle (despite underlying conditions in one case that would put them at the front of the line in the UK). I, on the other hand, have never offered them even one measly piece of fruit or veg. Can we therefore conclude that a Covid vaccination makes us mean and unfriendly? And, if so, was it my AZ first doses, or my Pfizer booster that was the culprit? :-)

@Fred: Exactly: my questions are pure about the actual situation without judging any side. I want to make fact based decisions as much as possible.

@ Gwynj: Thank you very much: very kind of you to be so informative. You are really helpful :-)

You are wright, there are many more factors to make a decision to move to another country. But I have to start somewhere. ;-)

Hello everyone,

Kindly note that we had to remove a few posts from this thread.

Let us please focus on helping the initiator without engaging in debates as this is his intent. Furthermore, Expat.com is not the right place for discussions on vaccines.

Thank you.
