Hello, my 180 days is nearly up. I'm due to fly to Lisbon, but Portugal has a ban on people coming from Brazil. So do most countries.

If I overstay my visa, will I be fined, and how much per day?

boombop4477

I overstayed by 37 days=3700 reais plus interest now near 5k.Apparently u can appeal, which i did, lost.Im reappealing ,based on covid situation.

Texanbrazil

Yes. It is $R 100 per day.
I would look for a country accepting flights (Mexico) and stay 14 days and have a neg test. I do not foresee Brazil going off the red flag list and the fines can add up.
From sources, the PF is questioning why those that overstayed did so knowing the situation.
You can appeal fines, but now it hard to overturn the MJ

There are currently over 300 AirB&B vacancies available in Mexico City alone, in a wide range of prices.  That could be an enjoyable and economical stopover.

I like this site,

https://travelbans.org/europe/portugal/#crossingrules

as they seem to stay up to date on international travel.  Some of the travel restrictions into Portugal were lifted in March, and some more were lifted this month.  This site covers the most current travel restrictions in and out of most countries, not all.

Woah ab3, you nearly had me off on a jaunt to Mexico City!

Surely we should be discouraging travel at this time? We don't want the variants to be spreading in crowded airports and planes packed like sardine cans. Scientists have confirmed that the virus is airborne.

And Mexico City, well apart from all the petty theft, there's the fact that it is one of the most crowded cities in the world. The last thing it needs is a ton of P1-carrying refugees. I wouldn't want to take advantage of their generosity or laxness with regards to COVID-19. Suppose somebody in Mexico decided to kidnap me, they might catch asymptomatic Covid and leave me feeling guilty and wanting to pay their medical bills.

I do believe they were trying to help you.  You are always welcome to overstay your visa and pay the penalties instead of being snippy to the people makeing suggestions.

Thanks for offering me the alternative, this idea of paying 13K in fines and "interest" that others have been caught out by. We all want to fund the Immigration System to the best of our ability.

There is in fact a third option for those of us who have been affected by the misery and chaos of COVID-19. If you can show that your trip was prevented due to the pandemic you are (as might be expected) entitled to an Extraordinary Extension (Prorrogação Extraordinário) of 90 days. You need to fill out all the same forms as an ordinary extension, along with a cancelled or modified ticket and a Justification form.

I hope this might be of actual help to people who find themselves in this tricky situation and weren't overjoyed by the prospect of abandoning their friends in Brazil and spending two weeks in Mexico City.

There are lots of Mexican alternatives to Mexico City.  My odyssey home requires a 14 day layover somewhere post Brazil. I decided on a 2 week diving holiday in Cozumel. Not super cheap, but a great excuse to splurge in something I've wanted to splurge in for a long time.

I think many of us (myself included) are getting a bit over wrought due to this pandemic craziness. It is good to remember to B-R-E-A-T-H-E.

Texanbrazil

Mexico would be for a US stopover. Cancun and other resorts. There are some in EU area which you can quarantine. UE is one.

Exactly; that's why I said Mexico City alone.  Cozumel is a great choice, especially now with no cruise ships.  Have fun!  Before I moved to Brazil, diving Cozumel was a must for me, at least once a year.

There are a lot of charming and economical places in Mexico to spend a quarantine layover, but I leave it to the Mexico Experts to expand.  Some people who haven't spent much time there  would probably prefer to stay close to the airport where they arrive.

I neither encourage nor discourage people who are in danger of overstaying their visas from traveling.  I do discourage them from overstaying their visas in the first place, of course, but when that ship has already sailed, I try to help them find the least painful solution.  Compounding the offense rarely qualifies as "least painful".  Your mileage may vary.

It's my understanding that nobody is going to be allowed to board a plane out of Brazil without a shiny new negative covid test in hand, so I doubt that "crowded" Mexico's "laxness", "petty theft", or putative kidnappers would have any more to fear from you than the Brazilian versions you've mentioned in prior posts do.

Texanbrazil

Sounds as if you have decided to go with the fines.
180 days ago we remained and led the world in this Covid situation.
I would have gone home to have my heathcare or not traveled in the first place. This is not going away soon in BR
We just try to assist from what we know. I have agents in my family and they are just two agents and not all who review cases, I just state what I have heard.
Good luck

Nope. The PF saw things my way.

I hope I'm not disappointing you, but it turns out despite the perverse financial incentives there are still some good people in the Policia Federal.

It makes sense because in these difficult times governments should be trying to make allowances for hardship, not trying to exploit it for profit.

Texanbrazil

Great you got an extension.
I did not say anything as to good or bad agents. I would have an unhappy family if I do.

Wait, is that how you got to stay in Brazil? Marrying into the PF?

I should try that. Watch out ladies!
