My request for info on crossing US border was removed. Don’t understand. Just looking for info on best port of entry to enter Mexico from US experience.

I don't have a point of reference to other locations but I am in Mission. The nuevo progreso crossing is safe and not much of a wait.  I have been told to avoid Reynosa, Tam. by numerous locals because there is a high risk of carjacking-kidnapping. They say that when you cross, opportunists watch for easy targets crossing.

It really depends on at what area you';re entering and what part of Mexico.

We are heading to Mazatlan from Minnesota.  Thought might use Nogales AZ as it aligns with MX 15 which is a straight shot south. Since will be the first time we are driving across the border, looking for experience info from others.

That is the route I have used numerous times.  The precautions are cross early and go directly to Hermosillo stay there over night. Don't leave the hotel after you arrive, don't drive at night and leave the next morning. The roads are good.

Roads are a major factor, Use the toll roads not the libre. The toll roads (cola) have a fee of course so be prepared. get some pesos before crossing.. Do not drive after dark because the roads are not well lighted , the roads are not always good, and people are often walking on the road at night. It's not safe to travel at night for many reasons.

The roads often have speed bumps and pot holes. The toll roads are maintained and offer break down trucks that will help you with a flat tire.

Good luck

Thanks! Good info.
