Americans in Ukraine

Hello,
As retirement looms, we are considering relocating to Odessa. One issue is obtaining a drivers license. Are there any people from the US that have obtained a drivers license in Ukraine? If so, how did you do it?

Good evening.
Not quiet shore why you asked for american help , for a Ukrainian driving licence. I say this as its the same for Most other nationals. There are a few exceptions .
Belarus, Moldova , Russia pack, dont need to change. USA, British, most of Western Europe you can.
Drive for one year using an international Licence, then you need to go too a driving school, register, you then will have to Take a medical, take a few driving lessons, and then sit an exam. The exam is know in English, and you need to get 70% to pass. The process can take three months. On a pass you will be given a provisional licence valid for two years. Providing you dont commit any offences at the end of this period you just exchange for your full licence.
The cost is down to the driving school but all in all around 200 usd. The main thing is dont try and bribe, if you do and you get found out, the penitentiary system is not a nice place to end up in, Routine stops and checks are common place. hope that helps a little.

Based on the experience, you can use US driving licence as long as it is valid

only for one year then you need to take Ukrainian licence (if you are resident)
