Medication in Panama

Good morning everyone,

Whether it's a simple cold or a chronic illness, medication and medicine use vary from country to country and culture to culture.

When you are used to certain brands or types of drugs, being in a country like Panama with different rules can affect your daily well-being.

Some drugs also differ in name, price, dosage, active molecule, so we would like to hear your opinion on these issues:

Have you ever had difficulties finding familiar or useful medicines for your health in your host country?

Have you ever been faced with a shortage of medicines in Panama?

Would you have said that in Panama drugs are more or less expensive than in your home country? Do you find them more or less effective or of similar quality?

What is the place of alternative medicines in your host country? Have you ever used them?

Thank you in advance for your feedback,

Loïc

actrually i have my medical insurance in colombia and buy my drugs there much cheaper like 100 mg viagra i buy for 1.15 over 3 buicke here same with my bp meds 30 days here 28 dollars 7 bucks there

My comment and complaint is about one (1) drug - Tamsulosin.  I have always been told that drugs were less expensive outside the USA.  I moved from USA to Panama and ran out of my prostrate drug.  In USA (on Medicare D), I got 180 pills ($20.00) (90 supply) I paid $.11 per pill.  I ran out again and went to a local pharmacy on their discount day.  I paid ($342)  @ $1.90 a pill.  I could not believe the price!  I have not found Panamanian drug prices to be more reasonable or cheaper the the USA.

Agreed, drugs are not cheaper here. Over the counter are expensive too, and less selection. I always bring back aspirin, cold meds, etc from the US when I visit. My neighbor has her relative bring her glaucoma drops from Colombia because they are about 1/3 the price there.
