Just for fun: Unusual cultural habits in Dominican Republic and around the world

In this Just for fun thread, we would like to highlight unconventional customs which make Dominican Republic stand out. This is a chance, at the same time, to learn about other countries' equally interesting traditions.

1. Which country considers cats to be lucky? How about Dominican Republic?
2. In which country should you not write in red ink?
3. Is there anything like a 15-minute grace period in Dominican Republic or is showing up on time or earlier a common practice?
4. In which country do people greet each other by rubbing noses?
5. What is one custom associated with Dominican culture that you have found to be quite unusual?

Thanks for participating,

Oh wow, this is similar to the other thread started recently about superstitions.

Culturally the DR is very social.  If you just saw your neighbor and then happened to see them at the grocery store - the greeting is like finding your.long lost friend.  Feel free to block the aisle with your carts, hug for extensive periods, talk loudly and wave your arms about completely interfering with other shoppers.

On time?  On time???   :lol:  I am sorry that doesn't exist here. There is no value placed on time.  Late is normal. Really late sadly is not unusual. Not showing up at all happens!

There are many more...
