Hi All, Does anyone know if we can legally buy and drive a scooter, without registration or insurance ?
We are very happy travelling in Ecuador by bus, but need a mode of transportation in our little town of Puerto Cayo.
At home in Canada any scooter or moped less than 50cc does not require registration or a drivers license. Hoping similar laws apply in Ecuador ? Would be great if someone knows the scoop or can point us in the right direction.

If there is a store selling scooters in the little town, I wonder if you asked this question there.

The local police would enforce any such law, so they should be able to tell you.

I wouldn't trust any laymen Expats on the forum to provide a reliable answer unless they own a scooter and use it in your town.

Common sense tells us you would be responsible for restitution if you do any damage to persons or property while riding any type of vehicle or aparato without insurance, regardless of the insurance requirement.
