Hello,

Finances and banking can sometimes be a headache for many expats, especially when it comes to taking out bank loans.

Is it difficult for an expat to get approved for a bank loan in the Netherlands?

What are the types of bank loans available for expats (mortgage/bonds; business loans; car loans; personal loans; student loans)?

What are the general conditions for expats to take out bank loans (interest rates; timeframe to repay loans, etc.)?

Which bank in the Netherlands is the most popular or accessible for expats regarding loans?

Would you normally require the services of an accounts manager at the bank in order to facilitate the process of taking out a loan? Is this service free of charge?

What would happen in the case of an unpaid loan if you have to repatriate back to your home country or move somewhere else?

Are there any other options for loans aside from the bank in the Netherlands, such as taking out a loan from your bank in your home country, or other types of companies not affiliated with banks, that give out loans?

I have a good experience with bank loans. My account is in ABN AMRO bank and they have a good support for English spoken clients. For loans they have separate department for international clients and everything can go fast.
It is possible to make an Skype appointment for consultation regarding mortgage (free of charge), where you can get detailed information of how complete process works and what amount you can borrow.
Cash loans one can get rather fast. I got one in just two days after application.
If you plan to buy a house, I would advise you to get a consultant agency for that, as they have more banks in the system and can find a perfect offer for you. If you have a permanent contract, you can buy a house after only 6 months living and working here and only thing you must have is 6-8% of the value of the house to show the bank you are able to pay all extra costs (notaris, tax, evaluation of the house, translator...)
We managed to get interest of only 2.9% fixed for 30 years. Whole procedure took about 2 weeks.
