Seeing the security guards is pretty normal here. Most banks have them, scales stores will have them. They are often under trained and badly paid.
In many ways it's like window dressing, it's expected.
Carrying - means you feel a need to protect something. In many ways it's like creating a giant target on yourself.
My suggestion is live here a couple years and after that do what you feel you need to do. It will take you that long to get through the process.
