Choice of real estate agent

Post new topic

Hi

I was always told that in buying a house in Italy you are as a buyer always stuck with the agent of the seller and have to pay commission to him too. Now I heard that you may indeed bring your own agent and both agents have to cooperate and you pay only your agent. A huge difference as it is much better to have your own agent working only for you. Any insights? Is this correct? Experiences? Thx

Hi Stef7sa,

If you need to purchase a property in Italy and you find your dream house through the help of a real estate agent, you might need to negotiate with him and pay him a percentage when the purchase is finalized. You can always chose to have your own agent to negotiate, however this will cost you more money as you might need to pay them both, unless your agent contacts the vendor's agent and discuss his fees with him.

In any case, it is suggested to have someone representing you which does not have any interest in closing the deal, someone who assists you and get paid independently from the fact that the purchase will come to an end or not. Remember, in fact, that the agent gets his fees only if the transaction is finalized.
