Keeping in touch while living in Morocco

Hello everyone,

What are the best ways you've found for keeping in touch with friends and family back home while living in Morocco? How frequently do you stay in touch with loved ones?

Are there local equivalents to common instant messaging and online video calling services that you prefer or are more widely used?

If there is a sizeable time difference, how do you manage this?

Do you make international phone calls from a landline or mobile phone from Morocco? What do you think of the cost?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla

Hi,
To call from Morocco to my country is very expensive and you must have a post paid mobile contract. For that reason I use mostly whatsapp call, messaging and video call.

Whats app and Skype seem to be the most successfully used methods of calling.  There are other free computer apps as well.  If calling into Europe some phone plans such as Orange have two hours free roaming per month.  To call someone who works daytime Mon-Fri in the Us (5 hours difference to EST,  8 hours to PST) the only reasonable time to call is weekends.
