Appropriate apparel in Abu Dhabi?

Hi there! My husband and I are planning a trip to see my father in Abu Dhabi. I would like to know what the appropriate apparel there would be?

I would also be interested in any input you have on where to buy quality Kaftans within a $100-300 usd price range or perhaps an idea of what to pair with what? I'm not sure what the style is there or what the locals consider tasteful/stylish. The more specific you can be the better! :)

I want to err on the side of caution as my father is a working professional there and I don't want to embarrass him in front of any of his colleagues (on the off chance I meet them).

Thank you so much for considering my question.

Hello Amelia,

I hope my reply is not too late. However, choice of apparel in the UAE capital depends on the place. Malls usually apply a dress code policy for visitors. To illustrate,  no short skirts (above the knees) or shorts are allowed inside Abu dhabi malls. The same goes for strapless tops. Generally speaking, you can hang around in sleeveless shirts and pants or short pants.  As for the beach pedestrian tracks, all kind of sport wear and tank tops are acceptable.  Inside hotels and bars, you can dress smart or casual depending on the time of the day.

As for the Kaftan, I think you can go shopping at Abu Dhabi World Trade Center, there are plenty of shops there.

Cheers
