Thank you. I will need to check our other thread to see IF this differs from what is posted.
And welcome to the forum!!!
Welcome to the forum.
Planner thanks for checking
Wow that is a lot of work
Bob K
Sure is and not even sure ANYTHING has actually changed.
In fact at first glance this appears incorrect as I am told that it is not a police check from the county but the FBI that needs to be done. Good grief.
That laundry list of documents was pulled from the D.R embassy.
Please note that immigration requirements do change from time to time. Also, not all Dominican embassies or consulates keep their websites up-to-date.
So true!!!!! So lets disregard this and I will endeavor to update the other thread!
ATTENTION IMMIGRATION LAWYER
How can you say that the D.R. embassy has the wrong details on their website?
After a call was placed to the Embassy in Washington, their personell confirmed that the details are current and up to date.

Thank you for posting the visa requirements in English. They will be very helpful. Another helpful tip would be to inquire how much the embassy charges for translating or notarizing and apostilling documents.
Please note that the info posted is from the DR Embassy in the US. In addition to that embassy's website there are over two dozen websites from DR consulates and embassies in the US and other countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs overseas all the embassies and consulates in the world. There website (in Spanish) has very concise information:
http://consuladord.com/contentlist.aspx … mp;lang=ES
While the post is helpful, you need a bit of an attitude adjustment!
Posting any part in all CAPS is yelling. The lawyer, like the rest of us, does this on a volunteer basis. We are not required to do anything.
I already indicated I would work to make sure the pinned thread was updated but clearly that wasnt good enough for you!
And embassy websites are OFTEN incorrect, or not updated and embassy staff are OFTEN wrong. Just like staff here in the gov't here in the DR are OFTEN wrong.
So lets step back from this, take a breath and understand we are all doing our best.
Dear Planner/consultant
My attitude is just fine, I did not realize that using cap letters for a title or emphasizing the top of a document will be yelling.
You must be the sensitive type.
Since this is a hobby of yours in helping people obtain a residency in the D.R., current correct information on the site should be provided to the site visitors and not outdated details.
Keep up your good work
Cheers
Well glad you know now. Not sensitive at all! I have been here 13 years and i am used to this.
See you assume your info from your source is correct and in fact may be well out of date.
I will continue doing what i do!
Having info on getting Residency that I can print out for later referral is great, (and I appreciate everyone's effort to keep it up to date😉 because I love knowing as much as I can to avoid issues later) ....But it is a lot of info so I will be hiring a lawyer to get me through this.
Is it safe to say the lawyer will walk me through this process and tell me what I need to provide to them each step of the way? I hope the $$ I spend will get me that in return....but maybe this is wishful thinking??😫 thanks!!
Dear Planner
The required documents came from the D.R. Ministry of Foreign affairs. Not from the local Dominican bodega.
Providing half fast information is not my style, it seem to me that guessing about what document are needed is the only details that you provide on the expat forum.
Make calls or email embassy staff instead of just being quick at answering forum posts.
Have a wonderful afternoon
Wow. Personal attacks will get you nowhere! You are the newbie here on this forum, not me.
Hi Kat, we recommend using a lawyer as this is a process not easy to wade through!
Saharajoes, you need to get off your high horse. Their answers to questions on this forum is based on their experiences and not by in depth research like you seem to expect.
Cat fight...love it
Kat yes a lawyer is what we used and always recommended it to our clients and friends to go that route.
We have an excellent one who will hold our hand and walk you through the whole process and is very reasonably priced, especially compared to what others have been paying. Let me know if you need her contact info.
Planner also has an excellent lawyer she uses.

Hi everybody! I would like to know if a foreigner is allowed to work before the dominican ID (cedula) is issued. After having submitted all the papers to Dirección General de Migración and Junta Central Electoral, there may be a waiting period of several months (up to 6 months) before the cedula is ready for pick-up.
I've read that DGM releases a "Constancia para expedición de cédula" (a receipt confirming that all the required documents have been accepted and delivered) and it should be accepted as evidence of my right to live legally in DR.
So my question is: Is the Constancia itself enough to apply for a job in Dominican Republic?
Thank you all for your support! ¡Hasta pronto!
Elia
Wow, there sure is a lot of right and wrong going on with this thread. Not sure what country everyone is talking about, but always up for a good cat fight! Sure you can work here without residency or documents. Sure you can make money here without residency or documents! You do not need your residency or anything else to "apply" for a job here in the DR. Now that you have an answer to your question, I can see the real question is "how do you do work here for a "real company" and do it legally" and that is another question all together. One of which you will have to be answered by the legal powers to be. Since I haven't gone down that road I will only guess that if you have received your residency then there may be temporary privileges granted while you wait for your cedula and I would bet that if you find a real employer, they will be able to help you with that better than anyone. I don't think waiting for the cedula is a very long process though. Maybe 3-4 weeks. Someone on the board will confirm that for you. There are also zones here that are tax exempt and if you are working in one of those zones, requirements may be different. My suggestion is to proceed with your residency while trying to find a way to make temporary income or look for an employer.
For those of you that don't live in this country, please don't waste your time and ours trying to understand it's idiosyncrasies until you do. What is written on a Dominican Government website is seldom completely accurate or up to date. Heck, their system was probably out of service 4 out of 5 days during the week at best. This is not a black and white country and never will be. The gray portion of the island is somewhat hidden in the clouds but I can tell you there is more gray than black or white combined. There is a strong presence of unwritten policy in the DR that makes it almost impossible for those not living here to understand. The internet is the least common form of finding out information in the DR. It's only a basic understanding to get you going at best. Real life experience and through contacts are the only way to get your answers in the DR and they probably will change within the course of your research even with "boots on the ground". Many lawyers and not really lawyers, they are solution providers and just happen to know their way around. In many cases foreigners that are living here still have no clue at what drives this country and makes it tick.
Only an observation, but I wouldn't waste your time with the DR Mr. Sahara. Based upon your input so far, it's not your type of country. Find one that is. Again, only my observation.
Have a great day everyone.
Hello DominicanadaMike, thank you so much for your answer. As you said, I am allowed to work while waiting for my cedula to be issued.
I know there are people out there who are working without residency or work visa.
As history teaches us, if Dominican Republic introduces stricter policies against illegal immigration, many expats could face deportation or worst consequences. For now, residency is just an option but who knows what will happen in the future.
As I said before, I prefer to live legally there and to do whatever it takes to complete the residency process. I think that effort pays-off in the long-term.
Saludos,
Elia
Elia you are going about it correctly and yes while your are waiting for your cards you should be able to work legally with "approved" papers.

Elia yes - with the documentation issued you can work legally while wiating for your cedula to be issued.
Good luck and love your attitude!
Thus the use of a trusted lawyer to verify everything (at that moment in time) More good info to refer to ......
@Bob K I did not get any job offer because I prefer to apply for jobs in-person. I can speak italian, english and spanish and have a bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management. Then, my best bet are call centres and large hotel chains.
I will keep you updated as the story develops

Elia
Please do. AND for hosp management start your process there. Send out apps and inquiries now to the chains! Do not wait until you get here.
Hi planner, i've already sent several CVs to Hotels and Resorts in Punta Cana, Boca Chica and Santo Domingo. Moreover, I've called directly some companies to express my interest for their job openings and to make sure they have received my applications.
Once there, I will also network extensively because Dominicans (like Italians) value networking and relationships.
Thank you for your suggestion.

Elia
So very true. Its more about who you know here for sure!!! Good luck to you.

Hahahahaha now that comment made my day! Thanks Elia.
Hi Bob K,
I am new to this forum and am a bit over whelmed with all the amazing, very detailed and useful information. I am looking at applying for my residency visa here in London, UK.
As you have said in your post it is best to do this via a lawyer. Could you please provide me with the name and details for the one you used.
Many thanks,
Aimee
