Settling in a new/different country is always complicated, almost as complicated as when you return home after 10+ years away.
You really need a job contract before coming, you can't just arrive and find work, it just doesn't work like that. If you come in on tourist visa and go job hunting, you will still need to return to home base and then reenter PNG with a work visa.
Your employer generally will arrange accommodation in the first instance which can be very very expensive in Port Moresby and less so in other centres.
Papua New Guineans and Melanesians in general are extremely friendly. You can make lifelong friends in a very short span of time.
Recommendations for new comers: patience, learning local culture and language while not a must would be highly beneficial and remember PNG is a developing country so don't expect all your creature comforts to be readily available or affordable.
