Making phone calls in Australia

Hi,

When settling in Australia, one of the priorities is to be able to make phone calls.

How to proceed to get a landline installed in Australia?

What are the mobile operators?

What is your average monthly budget?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience,

Maximilien

The most common landline option is Telstra, although Optus is also a major provider.

There are many others, but they all use the facilities of either Telstra or Optus, and on-sell the service to you.

Dodo and TPG are just two of these.

Most people will get a phone line and Internet bundle which can give a Landline and unlimited Internet from about $55 per month.
Or $40 per month for low Internet use.

An extra $10 per month with some plans will give Unlimited calls from the landline to any number or mobile in Australia.

Where you live and work in Australia will influence which provider you use for landline; internet and mobile.   If you live and spend most of your time in the cities, you have a wide choice but in the bush it's a different story.  Telstra generally has the best mobile network in the bush but this is not always the case, so be sure to check coverage.   As far as internet is concerned, more than a few km from an exchange could take you off ADSL and put you on NBN satellite.   Satellite is bad news due to latency.
