I was littlebit sleepy this morning and drove through a red light (it was just changed to red). My mistake and i admit it was wrong..

There was a police with his bicycle who stopped me and i got a fine (contravention).

Now when i ahve googled a bit, i found from Times of Malta that the fine is 250 eur? Is it really this high?

Tried to find something in Goverments and Police webpages, and dindt find anything.

And as it is a police ticket, the process is that i need to wait for the actual ticket/summons to arrive before i can pay it?

If it's a contravention you can go online and type in the number and this will give you the fine amount although it will take some time to get the paperwork through.

It gives some here but doesn't state red light.

You will receive a letter in the mail giving the details.  It can take several weeks before the letter arrives and your case  is entered into the computer system. You can't pay before you receive the letter as the local council  won't find the contravention in the system.

Cheers and happy driving -))

Yeah, it will take up to five weeks before the actual fine is posted.

Strange that i cant find anything official ab. the red light fine, 250 eur was mentioned in 2011 in some news articles as to be implemented soon, but after that nothing in media, or no mention in the official page either..

No information in LES homepage either..

I just need to wait then, will post it here when i get answer...

ps. and i deserved the fine, was littlebit sleepy and the red was just changed 2 secs before..

good luck - i too had a few delves into the net to find information regarding this but like you couldnt find much - - maybe a visit to the local police station or wardens office will help
