CPR rent different from actual rent?

Ok so I find a great apartment for BD500 and sign for it. When I get the paperwork back, I'm given a copy of the rental agreement I signed except that this one states the rent as BD300 and I'm told that I have to use this one to apply for my CPR. Once I've done so, they said to return it and I'll get the original one I signed that states the higher amount I'm paying.

What's the deal here?

are you taking about paper CPR for Saudi iqama holders? because as far as i know Bahrain work permit holders dont need rental agreement papers to apply for CPR (we will get the CPR first and then we rent an APT)  and the catch about the 200BHD difference is strange never heard of it from anyone. There is a municipal tax of 10% may be just to reduce that i am guessing there are doing it but i am not sure.

Could someone else on the blog share a thought?

It is probably for tax purposes, I agree, but again I've never heard of this before.

I was wondering how does it go when an applicant is applying for "Self Sponsorship" ?

For the Investors Visa , or the Retiree Visa !

If they're coming over from the GCC , do they get CPR cards after applying for a visa , or before ?

Wonder if someone can tell me what a Temporary CPR Certificate is  :unsure

yes... I should have said, this is for the CPR number not the actual card. Speaking to a fixer he said indeed it was a scam to avoid tax and that, by accepting the different version, I needed to be aware that I would tacitly be involved. He asked me to email him a copy so he could look at it because he said there might be a way to do it legally that would avoid me (and him of course) being implicated.

Didn't like sound of all this.

Yes, suburbansam - this is a scam for the landlord to pay lower rates to the municipality. I presume the apartment you are renting out is a furnished apartment - in which case, the landlord has to pay 7.5% of the rent to the municipality.

By doing what he did, he effectively saves BD15 per month (the difference between [BD500 x 7.5%] and [BD300 x 7.5%]) - not worth the trouble he is going through and getting you involved in.

Let us know what your "fix-it" guy suggests before you agree to it. Maybe we can provide some more guidance.

Good luck!
