Dear All,

Pepsi offered me a job in Muscat, can you please help me decide, how much will I spend in a month for:
   1. Food
   2. Utilities (electricity and water)
   3. Accommodation (simple but enough for a family of 5)

I live a simple life, a home buddy, no vices. Will 970 omr (all in allowance etc.) be enough how much can I save? I'm planning to bring my family there after a year. I have 3 kids. 8, 7 and a 1 year old.

Please help me decide. Thanks

Sumitran

Hi robert villarin,

For a family of 5 this salary may not be really be sufficient to lead an above average lifestyle. Especially if you have to take care of all expenses by yourself. Accommodation alone would cost you at least about R.O. 400/- for a 2 BHK. For a 1 BHK it would be a 100 rials or so less. Utilities would be about R.O. 30/- per month. Food could cost you in the region of R.O. 300/- per month. Plus you would have your childrens educational expenses and their transportation to account for.

Suggest you come first and see how it all goes. If you feel you can manage within your salary, your family can always join you.

Also, go through the forum where the 'Cost of Living' has been discussed in great length for all details of expenses.

Good luck !

Hi Sumitran,

Thanks for the response, I have been reading all your advices throughout this forum and found them very helpful and informative.

I'll think about it and do some math.

My best regards.
