I am moving to Cairo in two weeks time to start a new life. i am so exited but
I am realy confused as what to pack clothes and cosmetics wise.
I have a 20 kg lugguge allowance so that is one medium/ large suit case.
I did visit cairo for a week at the end of May but i am arriving in July and i think it will be a lot hotter. I am a uk size 16 are their many shops in cairo that stock this size or should i stock up before i leave. last time i packed a lot of clothes but did not feel comfortable to wear them and ended up only wearing white  loose linin trousers with a long vest and cardigan to cover my arms and i still got a lot of unwanted male attentian it was very overwhelming being told I m pretty every two minutes so much so i resided to not going out on my own at all.
What other clothes apart from linen trousers could i bring that dont look undignified?
I live in leggings and long tops in London.
Also is there an eqivalalant of a Boots or Superdrug in Cairo?
can you get facial cleansing wipes over there?
Do i need mosquito spray?
Thankyou ladies ..

hello ginger
nice to meet u here, i ve just noticed there is a common complaint from the ladies here about being stalked or harrassed by the locals here in egypt
...unfortunately there is nothing to do about it so far from authorities here

some ladies try to avoid such a behaviour by wearing headset pretending to be listening to ipod and also sunglasses , wearing non revieling clothes might help as well, although some poeple still get such a behaviour from the male locals ...

Hi gingerqueen,

I am afraid no matter how "covered" you go out the harassment will continue. I know of women who wear niqab being harassed in the street. I have lived in Cairo for close to a year now and this is the worst aspect of life in this country. Always remember: it's not you, it's them!

re what to pack, really depends on what you normally would wear but linen is always good, t-shirts, cropped trousers, plenty of your usual cosmetics and perfume as you may not find your preferred brand (or might find it but very expensive). Wouldn't worry about insect repellent, that is quite inexpensive here.

Whatever else you bring, make sure you bring mobile and laptop with you, as these items are much more expensive here and not always same quality. If you are now in UK, remember to bring adaptors(3 to 2)as well.

Sorry, no Boots or Superdrug here, I miss them so!!! facial cleansing wipes, yes you can find in supermarkets and chemists, but are quite dear.

Hope this helps

Hi ,
My advise to you is to bring a facial cream with sunblock and a cleanser that will really be suitable with the pollution and the heat in Cairo ....Clothes wise don't forget to bring some light cardigans especially if you want to wear tank top or sundresses .Jeans are fine and of course cargo pants ,linen and skirts that cover under the knees .And remember it all depends where you will be able to wear tanks ,shorts and dresses as some neighborhood like Zamalek and Maadi have less harassment than the downtown area or the touristic area .Your favourite deodorant and perfume are a must .You may find many brands but i found out that theya re not quite the same .And I am pretty sure you be fine living in this crazy town but yet very magical !

Cheers
