You will find the biggest difference is in electronics (30% more here) especially for things like computers and TVs
Automobiles also are about 30% more here (huge taxes). Most other things are slightlly higher or the same here. I actually bought a Poulan riding mower for $800 less here then the same model back in the US.

Hi Rob, I lived in the DR for about a year. Cars are marked up 200%.I was looking at a Toyota Truck which sells for 16,000USD here & in the DR costs 80,000US. Medications like hydrogen peroxide sell for less than a dollar here cost 8-10USD in the DR. Other medications like Plavix a medication for stroke victims is unheard of & not even on the DR's drug list.Electronic goods like esoteric stereo's are often unavailable & what is available is very costly. The rich in the DR can fend for themselves but the average lifespan of a average Dominican adult male is in the 60's with many dying in their 50's. Take care, Ron
Ron,
Not sure where you shopped but they certainly saw you coming. Just for the reccord we bought a new Toyota RAV4 here. The cost was $35,000 US. The same equiped car (I priced it on a trip back to the states) was $28,700. So not sure where your 200% comes from.
Meds also tend to be somewhat cheaper here execept for 3rd generation antibiotics.
Hydrogen peroxide less then $1 for a small bottle
Amppicillin about $1 pill.
Viagra $4
Metformin (for diabites) $1 a pill
Food is still generally 40% cheaper unless you insist on US products.

There is the ability to make good profits on American products BUT you need to know the system, have people on the inside AND know what palms to grease when appropriate.
It is not easy or we would all be doing it!
