Hi guys,

I would really need help as it lis very likely we will be moving to Macaé but I am 10 weeks pregnant .
Is there a great private maternity clinics or hospital  where it is safe to give birth to my third child?

And also need some advice on housemaids?  I have 2 kids and expecting the third one will make me so busy.
Is help available in Brazil?
Looking forward to read somebody's comment:)

James

Hello Potyi,

The hospitals here in Macaé are just fine for maternity, to my knowledge there isn't a private maternity hospital as such here in Macaé or anywhere nearby. I wouldn't worry too much about it though.

On the subject of a housemaid (empregada domestica), the recent changes to the labor laws to include domestics have made this a very costly exercise what with overtime, holiday pay, pension, taxes, etc. Most people are now hiring a "diarista", which is a housekeeper that comes in a couple of days a week. They charge a daily rate and aren't covered by the new laws so this is a good way to cut down the costs.

It would be best to either contract through an agency, don't know if there are any here in Macaé, but I will try and find out. Another option is to ask people you know to refer somebody. Always better to have someone in your home that is known to somebody.

Thanks a lot William for your kind reply.
Do you know if Filipinos work in Macaé?  Which location would you recommend for living with 2 kids and later with 3 :) ? And I will also need to find a good daycare/ nursery for my 3 year old son in case of moving...
Do you know if there is any?

Thanks ahead!:)

I don't personally know any Filipinos who are living and working here, but I'm sure there must be some - we've got people from all over the world in the city because it's the "Petroleum Capital of Brazil".

Where you live would depend a lot on where you work and the salary you're getting, but if for example you were working for Petrobras or another petrochemical company then I'd say Imbetiba, Cavaleiros or anywhere in between the two. You'd be in a nice area and very close to Petrobras. The rents would be rather high in these areas though.
