Hi,

I'm looking for  informations.
I thought that maybe I can get a help from here!
Because no one's put the effort to help me.

I want to study for a  kindergarten teacher(they call it Erzieherin) in Heidelberg.
At first I was thinking to study for kindergarten teacher in Munich, but in Munich everything is too expensive. So I guess Heidelberg is better.
So when I was interested in Munich they told me(from kindergartens and institutes) that you don't actually study this field of education at a university in Germany.
In Munich you don't study for a kindergarten teacher in a university, that it's like professional studies! Like a
" training ", which they call in Germany "AUSBILDUNG", and that the Ausbildung is done at Fachakademies.
So all I want to know is if it's also the same and for Heidelberg.

Thank you.

Hi 😃

I just read your post and will see, if my Information will help a little bit.
Iam a kindergartenteacher here in Berlin and now working for over twenty years.
I guess the education in Germany is all the same.
You don't have to study to be a kindergartenteacher, that's right.
You have to attend a Fachhochschule and it will take about three years to become a kindergartenteacher or as it is called here Erzieherin. During this time you also have to do three practical tranings at different places, like Kindergarten or school. It all depends how old you are and what kind of education you had in the path.
I have sometimes trainees, that I accompany through their practical training.
As a Erzieher you are also able to work with teenager or dissabled kids.
Well they have changed the education guidelines the past years, so if you want me to check it out for you, I can do this.
Heidelberg is a real nice town. I have been there and liked it.
Ok, I hope I could help you out a little bit. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.
I know over here, Kindergarten and other Institution are looking for Erzieher right now. It's hard to find some right now.

Friendly greetings from Berlin
Silvia

Thank you very much for you infomations! I appreciate your help :)
I am 19 years old, Ι have finished primary, high school and
lyceum! But I guess in abroad they have some differences in the classes in comparison with Greece. (Ι have German roots but I am Greek.)
As you are a kindergarten teacher are you satisfied with the salary in this job?
Where in Germany do you think is better for someone to study for kindergarten teacher, work as a kindergarten and also live?

Thank you in advance
Greetings from GREECE :)

Thank you for your help! :)

Well about the salary, I guess things about the payment of kindergarten teachers, are better wider in Germany than here in Greece !

I believe that there are differences in the way of studying for kindergarten teacher in each "part" of Germany!
For example in Munich they told me that you don't studythis field of education at a university. That the "ausbildung" (the training I mean) is done at fachakademie (professional academy) ,fachschule (vocational school).

Now in Heidelber they told me that I there are different possibilities.
Tha I can either enroll at a College of Education to get a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Studies. Or I can enroll at a Fachschule  Or - the latest - I can do a "duale Ausbildung"! I don't know actually what they mean with "duale" but anyway.
Now I don't really know wich way is the best to study for Kindergarten teacher. I'm confused.

My daughter is in her 3 rd year at University in South Africa studying a 4 year Degree in Early Foundation Education. Will she get credit for her courses that she has completed so far? Where does she need to enrol to complete her studies to become a Kindergarten teacher. We are looking into accommodation in Ulm. Any info will be appreciated! Thank you Elsabe Prinsloo

There is a shortage of kindergarten teachers in Germany (partially due to their awfully low pay), and especially native English teachjers are sought after (since every kindergarten tries to have one to support early language learning), so it would be very easy for your daughter to find a job.
However, she must have the right - and recognised - certifications. Check the Anabin database or contact the relevant authorities in Ulm to find out if her degree is recognised or if she has to take additional courses. Also, she needs a good level of German (at least B2) to be accepted into a course or job.
