What's your favourite Belgian Beer?

balesy1974

When it comes to Belgian beers, which ones do you prefer?

Which are your favourites?

That Chimay Trappist stuff goes down well, Belle-Vue Kriek is tasty (although I get the impression Kriek is regarded more of a woman's drink?) and I love a Duvel or ten.

Indeed Kriek is thought to be more of a womans drink but men do still drink it. I like it the cherry version they have a peach to but not so keen

balesy1974

Peach Kriek?

*shudders* sounds revolting! But, as my late Father used to say "don't knock something until you've tried it!" ;)

Another beer I tried last sunday at an organ grinding festival in Geraardsbergen, was Petrus Old Brown Ale, it was gorgeous.

Sadly im not a huge beer drinker lol I used to drink a lot of sweet  cider but it dosnt seem to be something here

hannahhadman

However I do fancy tring one of the rasberry beers

balesy1974

Well I wouldn't say I pour large quantities of the stuff down my throat on a regular basis, but I do enjoy trying a different Belgian beer when the opportunity arises, especially as there's more than plenty to choose from.

hannahhadman

100s indeed

Vedett is supposed to be very good (according to my husband) and if you like cherry beer try Liefmans.

hannahhadman

yeah ill try that one sometimes Kreik can be a little dry im not sure the otherone ive had that yum

Melby

I'm not a beer drinker but from all everyone says, the trappist beers are best.

hannahhadman

Lol dont say to Belgium people I have been told that Belgium beer /larger as its known as in UK is number one no question. Even if it was in a semi joke way

Melby

I assume you mean lager? A lager is a *type* of beer, it is certainly not an all-encompassing term.

Given that Belgian beer is known world-wide as being most of the best beers out there, I think it's a bit ludicrous to try and claim it's not good, and that watered down American garbage is better "beer" than they make here.

hannahhadman

Well in England Larger is the name given to beers like Setlla Kreik Carlsberg Cools budwiser etc. And Beer is the same for stout or bitter beers john smiths creamflow Guiness etc

hannahhadman

Lager is the term generally used in England for bottom-fermented beer. is appently the correct term

hannahhadman

Well to be honest everyone makes typos and for the rest  im serverly dysleixic so I actually dont know how to spell a lot of words and the pc I am borrowing dosnt have a broswer spell check so appoilgises thanks Colorado anyway some people are just like that I try and ignore it anyway and continue just being friendly around here. Best way really

hannahhadman

Also just to point out before people say im useing it as an excuse I just mean that in other posts some words may be spelt very different due to the way i think they are spelt etc but as i said people still make typôs ontop of that

hannahhadman

Okies well when i went to america I didnt drink beer just cocktils cant realy comment but I guess there are simlar brands as UK as well as your own

hannahhadman

also speaking of irish i saw a irish bar somewere the last week i cant think were it was it was eaither in Gent or antwerpên

balesy1974

This is starting to go way :offtopic: here, so much so that it's causing bickering.

Now, as much as I can fully appreciate people having preferences towards beers from the likes of Eire, UK and the USA, this isn't what I was asking!

"When it comes to Belgian beers, which ones do you prefer?"

hannahhadman

Indeed all i was getting at what I know as Beer and Larger are different I was to drink any Belgium beers it be the larger type ones such as Kreik and stella etc

antwerpian

I find Rochefort and Carmeliet as among the better beers in Belgium... BTW, I'm sipping my Rocheforte as I m typing this :) ...
