I had other plans to acquire a visa that are not panning out and have decided last minute, since I have all the needed paperwork and meet the requirements, to apply for a nomad visa.

I've read in numerous places on the internet that, if your application is waiting to be processed, that you are capable or should already have received some type of document that signifies you are still allowed to be in the country legally while the paperwork goes through.

I'm not eligible for a visa extension. Can anyone speak to this supposed document? I've seen it said on Reddit, YouTube and here. It was referred to as a certidao de atendimento or something similar.

If you are in Brazil legally, (ie still covered by another visa), and submit a full application which is accepted by the Federal Police (therefore it must be accompanied by all the relevant and up to date documentation), then you can remain under the terms of the visa you are applying for until you hear back from them. If course, if you fail in your application, you will have to leave at once...

Thanks Peter, do you know if there is some paperwork or anything online that states this?

It is all in the laws regarding administration of visa applications. But, for you, the crucial question is did you submit a complete, and accepted, application by the expiry of the previous visa? If you were missing anything, or were late, this law will not apply.

If  you did satisfy, then present yourself at the Policia Federal and ask for a certificate confirming this.

Thanks. I'll do that.
