I'm interested on this topic too, i'm not an American and not living in Mexico yet, but i might and would be there, in Los Mochis. I would know some infos about that citty too..

David1946

i really dont understand why we are not getting any responses from that area it is a large city a lady i was in contact with there says there are no Americans there so mabe that is correct.

Michlin

Well, i can say about that citty only what my boyfriend said.. just i wanted an different opinion. I don't think there too many foreigns there..including americans, at least from what he said.I am from Romania, Europe..and i have in mind go there to Mochis..although i do have a lot of fears, north Mexico has a bad fame :S

David1946

Thanks Michlin:
I dont know why there are not many From other Countries there but i will keep my eyes and ears open if i get any new info i will let you know.

Michlin

Your welcome!

David1946

I recieved a private message from a man that has been to Los Mochis and he says that it is a Working Class Town and that might be the reason their are not many people there from other Countries that is all i have got so far.

Hi David!
Thank you so much for the info.

Michlin

I know that Mochis is a small town, who knows if i'd have some chance to find a "career" there.. who knows.

;)

David1946

You never can tell so i wish you good luck

Why there? Sinoloa is one of the most dangerous states in Mexico! (or maybe that appeals?)

Michlin

Ehmm...yeah, that is what i've heard too, unfortunately :S  but, people still live there, i mean, if was so dangerous..most of the people would have left that place..no?
..it freaks me out a little bit..but, the people i know are from there so..

I live in Mazatlan Sin, a couple hrs south of Mochis. It is indeed a working class town. Agriculture and fishing are the main indusries. It is extremely hot and humid in summer , cool in winter. English only speakers would be at a great disadvantage. I have not heard of a gringo expat community there. "War on/of drugs " extremely active in the area. In 15 yrs living in Sinaloa I've only heard of a couple gringos being hurt and none killed as a result being in the line of fire . I wouldn't recommend Los Mochis  for more than a fill-up at the Pemex station on the hi-way on the edge of town.

Michlin

Oh :| this sounds pretty bad...

David1946

I think i will look elsewhere i like living too much thanks for all the info.

Hi David,

I have been through Los Mochis 2-3 times, It is actually a fairly small little town. My amigo has friends there and we had lunch with them.  They didn't feel that the town needed to become a tourist town. People looked at me with a questioning gaze. There was , other than my amigos friends, no welcome. There is also nothing that might attract tourists. It's much like a little farm town with an occasional shooting. There was one of those a few months before  my first visit.  It is in a state that does have more gang history and activity.
So that's why no expat groups there.

Los mochis is a very nice place to live or visit..it is one of a few towns that boasts a beach ..airport ...bus terminal ..ferry and train....the city has a huge American influence because of Benjamin Johnston an American who discovered the city..Los mochis has 2 Walmarts...home Depot ..office Depot and many other American stores and restaurants..I am from New York and I've lived in Los mochis for almost 7 years .The city is relatively safe

This post is like 10 years old. Did you ever make it to los Mochis? I've had a home here now for 16 years. If you dont speak Spanish you will have a difficult time here. It is not turisty.  Lots to do if you are in tune with the locals. I love the winters and can't stand the summers. I live in Baja California in the hotter months.

@David1946

Los Mochis was founded by an American. There are Americans there, though, I am wondering if there is an actual expat community like in other areas.

Chilangolite

@Ileanakm No there is not an expat community here.
