Hello everyone,
I'm Andreas, 50 years old, and I'm thrilled that this forum exists and that I get to be a part of it. As an IT professional looking to transition to remote work. I'm planning to spend the winter months from October to March working from Mauritius while continuing to reside in Germany for the rest of the year. Eventually, my family and I are considering the possibility of permanently relocating to Mauritius somewhere in future.
I'm here to exchange experiences, share tips, and learn from the insights of other expats. My aim is to facilitate a smooth transition and prepare myself as best as possible for living and working on this beautiful island. I'm particularly interested in purchasing a property in Mauritius to establish a home for our family.
This summer (July) I plan to visit the first time in my live Mauritius!
I look forward to hearing about your experiences and embarking on this exciting journey together.
Best regards,
Andreas

@nikschfam - Hi, we are also moving into an off plan property on the East Coast, which was supposed to be ready in September but was recently postponed to February 2025 - I wonder if it is the same development? Please do contact me privately if you would like to. Good luck with everything! Lindsay.

Hello everybody. My wife and I (both in our 50s) are currently applying for the retirement visa. We're both ex-South Africans who have lived in Canada for the last 16 years. Obviously we're navigating all the issues and hence why I'm here. Looking forward to gathering as much information as I can.

Hello:
Canadian Mauritian here. Work in the field of sustainability as a consultant. Spent all of my life in Canada. Back on the island for now but feel am more of an expat given that I barely know the country at this point. Would love to make new friends, go for drinks/coffee/juice/dinner. Was thinking of maybe having an informal 'meetup' at Flying Dodo in coming weeks just to meet people and chat.
Let me know if any interest. Maybe make it a regular thing if it works out.
Hi all, Anglo-Indian moving to Mauritius with my Mauritian partner for 6 months! Used to be an expat living in the UAE Looking forward to living on the island and meeting new people. Thanks!

@Julien
Hello Julien,
I am a temporary expat, came here as an international student, moved to Mauritius 2 months ago, I find living here on a long basis pretty challenging. I am in search of a part time job, I am highly educated, currently taking my second master related to business. My expertise is in event organizing, but I have many other skills. On the long run I would love to come and establish myself in Mauritius, but for now, I will be here between a few months and 2 years, depending if I can make it here, or not...
Any advise or recommendations with be highly appreciated... Thank you.
@Bhavna
