Hello,

We have retired to Pau and loving it. However, we are having a difficult time finding a Primary Care Doctor.  Most on Doctolib in our area are only taking on patients within their area of speciality and not for general care.  We are also just learning French so a doctor who speaks some English would be helpful.  We would appreciate any referrals!

The ones that you have spoken to, can they not suggest a GP to you?

@theresabrown64You have to look for a "Médecin généraliste" in doctolib.Or in ameli: http://annuairesante.ameli.fr/trouver-u … pau/page-1

In theory those closest to you should take you as a patient. If you show up at a cabinet in your village one of the doctors will give you an appointment.Your best bet though is one that moved in the area recently or returned from maternity leave and therefore has few patiens for now.Since you don't speak french contact by phone will be difficult. You can go into the GP office and ask the secretary if you can have an appointment - they are usually nice and try to be helpful in person.English speking GPs are not easy to find - you just have to research the vocabulary for what you need, maybe write it down so you can remember easily in the office.
