Accomodation & Public Transport Question

Post new topic

Ian0409

Hello,
Can anyone help me ?
I hope to start working at Conocco Phillips at the end of September (2011) and looking for good accomodation.

I hear that Stavanger centre is good but not sure how close by to work this would be for me. Is there a free bus service to Conocco Phillips from the centre ?

How much on average would monthly rent and other bills come too ? What about home insurance ? As I am new, I need all the info I can get ! :-)

Thanks so much,
Ian

Hi Ian,

Firstly good luck with the move to Stavanger, you may find things take more time here than you expect but conversely this give you the benefit of a much more laid back atmosphere than the UK!

If Conocco aren't putting you up with a flat (check they don't have help with relocation?) then you'll want to go to finn.no ... follow: Eiendom / Bolig til leie / Rogaland / Stavanger (or pop it into Google translate. That will give you some idea of prices (I'm not too certain of the market myself). Add 600-800NOK per month for electricity etc. insurance could be tricky without having a bank account, which itself is impossible without registering yourself with the authorities, which can only be done when you're here! (allow a week or two for each step). However, despite the expense I can definitely recommend something central to begin with.

As for getting to work a bus pass for the whole Stavanger area for 30 days is 600 NOK. You can find out a lot more here: kolumbus.no/ and you'll want to look up the number 9.

Do fire more questions our way, it's good to be prepared when you get out here! Oh, and be prepared for a shock at food prices...

Hope that helps,
Dave

Hi Ian,
Sorry for the delay in reply, I couldn't log on to expat-blog last time I tried. I guess Conocco would be the best people to ask about that! The flexipass is really quite reasonable though.
If there's anything else you need to know just shout...

I'll be out there a week on Monday !

Cheers
Ian
