Hi, I have heard that the men are asked to take off their shirts for the x ray during the medical fitness test. I want to know what is the process for females? Are they also asked to take off their shirts in dubai?

[at]Mina207 HI...

I am a Radiographer working in dubai.

Yes regardless the patient is male or female they have to change the dress for taking x-rays. For men if they are wearing shirts n jeans which contains metal buttons or metal zips. And for women we ask them to change if they have thick buttons, or dresses which contains stone or chumki works and bra which contains hooks and give them a new plain gown. If they wear any jewelleries which comes in the path of xrays field then they are advised to remove the jewelleries too. And for chest x-rays the hairs should be tied up. It depends on which part x-ray is prescribed by the doctor so the preparation will be as such. Not only in dubai all around the world we ask patients to change if we feel like any metals coming in the x-rays.

Thank you so much for the information. I am specifically asking for a Chest X-ray for Emirates ID - Dependent Visa category. If I wear no bra and just a plain t-shirt with no metallic thing on it, will I still be asked to change?

Also, would you have any idea which tests are done during the blood tests? I know that the X-ray is to check for TB, what about the blood tests, what are they for?

Hello Mina207,

It is possible that the hospital will provide an X-ray gown, as they are more knowledgeable about the types of clothing permitted or not permitted for the procedure.

To ensure you have all the necessary information before your visit, I recommend calling the hospital where you will be getting the X-ray and requesting specific details.

They will likely be very helpful in providing the information you need.1f609.svg
