I retired at 62 and have been in the Dominican Republic for 4 months. I maintain a us based address with the ss admin along with a us based bank account.

My question is does the social security administration only send proof of life forms to people with overseas addresses?

Is this something I need to be concerned about?

I only plan on being here another 3 maybe 4 months then I'm heading back to the states for good.

I wouldn’t worry about proof of life form your SS ck gets directly deposited and they probably don’t even know where you are ( here or there) I have never received one and I have been getting SS for almost 10 years now…

I live in NY and spend lots of time out of country… in NY if you spend 6 months and one day out of state in a year you don’t pay taxes for the year even w/an address there ,

it doesn’t have to be consecutive… maybe you want to look into your state taxes being you be away for 7 months

Ya as far as they know I'm in Oregon.

Thank you for the information I'll check on Oregon state taxes.

We participate in the US State Department STEP program, we’re registered to vote as American citizens living overseas, we use our address here in DR as our physical address with the IRS, and of course, our passport records clearly show we are spending almost all of our time here. Although we have a permanent address in the US and US bank account for direct deposit, when we start collecting, we see no reason not to disclose to SSA that we are living out of the country.

I am aware of the STEP program but unfortunately the business I was going into here in the Dominican Republic didn't work out. That's why I am returning to the usa.

I appreciate your reply however.
