New Zealand teachers moving to Lyon,

Hello

At the beginning of September myself and my partner will be moving to Lyon, we are both qualified secondary school teachers (9yrs & 4yrs) and will be looking for work and flats for rent as well. We are both qualified to teach English but also specialise in Physical Education and Science and Biology. If anyone knows of any work required OR flats available then please we would love to hear from you.

Brad

I don't know anything about visa requirements - I'll leave that up to you - but if you don't have French nationality then you are more or less restricted to private schools - perhaps those where some classes are taught in English. International schools are another possibility.

You could try teaching English to adults - there are the usual world-wide companies such as Wall St English - but pay is far from great.

For flat-renting have a look at estate agents' websites, but with no history of employment in France you may need to pay 6 months' rent upfront. Flats are often unfurnished. If you want to contact an estate agent from NZ then you'll need to phone - very often people in France simply ignore emails.

You could try a private ad in leboncoin for Lyon.

Have you thought about health insurance? No work here means no health cover, so private health insurance is necessary.

Hello Brad and welcome to Expat.com!

I hope that other members will advise you soon.

I may suggest you to post an advert in the Lyon classifieds > jobs section and accommodation section/ flats for rent.

I hope it helps,
Harmonie.:)
