We are from the UK, retired and resident in Spain but plan to move to France once we have sold our property in Spain. I have a few questions which maybe someone can answer for us.

  1. RESIDENCY What is the criteria to secure residency in France, and what is the guarantee that you will get residency.  We want to buy a property but are concerned about what happens if our residency is not granted.

HEALTH COVER 2. We have the S1 forms but it still seems unclear if we have to take out private health insurance while our residency is being processed , and do we take private insurance out for a year.  Does the S1 cover all health care etc..

Any advice , knowledge or experience on these matters would be welcome. TIA. Maxi

Hi,

Did you check the France guide (https://www.expat.com/en/guide/europe/f … rance.html)?

There are different types of visas depending on your situation but in terms of « guarantees » , the French government is the only authority so until your visa is approved, no one can promise that it will be approved.  Note that you can own property in France without residing there.

Health insurance eligibility in the French system will depend on your visa/residency as well as typically length of stay and/or whether you paid into the system.
