Melbourne is a big city with something for everyone. Whether you are looking for a romantic date night with your loved one, a family day out, something fun to do with your friends, or a solo day to regenerate, Melbourne has it all. Keep your eyes out for cheap deals during the week where you can pay half the normal price of the weekends.

Melbourne for you

If you are looking for a day out in Melbourne on your own, there is plenty to do to keep yourself entertained. A great way to start your day is with a good brewed Melbourne coffee. A favourite past time for a solo day out is to go to a local café (there is no shortage of them) and enjoy a hot coffee while you watch the city pass by. If the sun is out, you can follow this up with a walk in one of the parks or along the Yarra river in the centre of Melbourne. The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) always has interesting collections on and is a great solo past time, summer or winter. Take advantage of 'cheap Tuesdays', where movie tickets are 50% the regular price. This is pretty standard at most cinemas, but you can double check online per cinema. Lastly, don't forget to check out the State Library of Victoria, which is an exceptional building and allows anyone to go in and wander through it. A Melbourne street art tour is another good way to spend a day solo, enjoying a guided tour of the street art Melbourne has to offer.

Melbourne for couples

Melbourne is a great place to be for couples due to all the date night bars and restaurants dotted throughout the city, and the exceptional surroundings of Victoria. You can start with a lovely dinner in the city and then walk around and discover any one of the late-night bars where you can enjoy a cocktail. If you are happy to go a little further, Melbourne boasts a wonderful wine region. Red Hill situated around 45 minutes from Melbourne, and the Yarra Valley, just over an hour, all house beautiful vineyards and restaurants where you can taste the local wine and enjoy a cheese platter while you watch the beautiful scenery with your loved one. The Great Ocean Road is one not be missed and a fantastic road trip to do as a couple, as you stop off at little places along the way and enjoy the rugged, natural landscapes that Victoria has to offer.

Melbourne for friends

You can have a lot of fun in Melbourne with your friends. Melbourne Central and the Bourke street mall are great places to hang out with your friends, with hundreds of shops, cafes, and arcades to keep you entertained. Melbourne Central even has a cinema so after a day of shopping, you can go watch a movie. Another popular day out with friends can be going to watch a football match. Melbourne is football obsessed and is said to be the city of Australian Football League (AFL). It is definitely worth watching one match at the MCG with some friends. If the sun is shining, a picnic in the Botanical gardens is always popular with groups of friends, who can bring and share food, and listen to music while they enjoy the sunshine. Besides, it's always an enjoyable day out with friends to wander the Melbourne laneways and take photos then share an antipasto plate and watch the crowds together.

Melbourne for families

Melbourne has plenty to offer to families who are looking to entertain a variety of ages. The Melbourne Zoo is a great day out for any family and is only four kilometres from the city centre in the Royal Park gardens. The Melbourne aquarium situated on the Yarra River in the centre of the city is another great day out for families. You can opt in to do a variety of experiences like shark dives, or just enjoy the animals. If you want to go a bit further out, the Healesville Sanctuary, which sits just over an hour from Melbourne city, is a wildlife retreat that specialises in native Australian animals and is very interactive.

Lastly, if you enjoy heights and thrills, head up to the Eureka Skydeck, which is 297 metres high and allows you to get a panorama view of the whole city.
