Need apartment in Manta for me and my 2 dogs. Impossible?

Eddie54

I'll be coming to Manta soon and will be looking for an apartment for me and my two dogs.  Will this be difficult for me?  I don't need ANY luxuries like beach front property.  Just a nice little inexpensive place that I can reside while looking for a house.  Any advice will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Hello Eddie54.

In meantime, do not hesitate to post an advert in the Housing in Malta section. It can be useful. ;)

you can find an apartment for yourself and 2 dogs in Manta relatively easily.
currently we know of one for US$300, with 2 bedrooms, furnished,
and in a nice area.  Otherwise there are others but considerably more expensive.
let us know when you're coming.........

Hi Mike,
Thanks a lot for getting back to me.
$300 a month sounds OK.  Would I have to sign a lease?  Please let me know.
There are a few things I need to do before I go.  Namely, getting all my tax stuff together so I can get THAT out of the way.  And, secondly, get my house in ready for renting.  I already have a property manager for my place.
I’m not retired yet, so I’ll be shoving that $25,000 in an Ecuador bank.  I’m 58 and won’t be applying for SS for another 3 years.
Also, let me know if you want a finders fee for finding me a place.
Can’t wait to start my new life.
    Thanks again,
    Eddie
PS I’ll only require a one-bedroom apartment

hi Eddie
need to know when you plan on arriving......
the apartment I mentioned is available right now...is furnished, has appliances in the kitchen but no washing machine.  It does have 2 bedrooms, which for that price is very unusual
Yes, you will need to sign a lease, no fee payable to us
let me know your plans, dates, etc.......
regards
mike

Hi Mike, I could make an eduacated guess and say late February.  Employers around these parts (Texas) have until January 31 to mail out the tax info.  I appreciate all your help, but don't hold the place for me.  That wouldn't be fair to you.  Worst case senario, I'll hold up in a hostel that caters to pets owners and just pound the pavement daily to find a place for myself and my dogs.  I'll probably fly into Guaraquil like I did before.  Do you think I'd have any trouble convincing a taxi driver to take me to Manta in the middle of the night?  Thanks again, Eddie.

Eddie,
from our experience no.
they will ask for $120 for the trip.  you can usually bargain them down to $100......exceptionally we found one for $70, in the middle of the night, once!
Alternative is to find an inexpensive hotel close to the airport, and take the "Manta Express" the following day.  it costs just 10$, and leaves from the parking lot across form the back entrance to the Oro Verde Hotel

Well, $120 for a cab ride to manta is still cheaper than the $350 Journeyman Jack is charging from Quito to Manta.  I took the Manta Express once and I felt very claustrophobic.  All I'll be bringing with my are my two dogs (in their plastic carriers) and about three suitcases filled with DVD movies.  A furnished two bedroom apartment may still be a bit too lavish for my simple needs.  Hey, have you ever been to Mexico?  For a while there I was considering living in Merida on the Yucatan peninsula.  I heard the crime wasn't too bad there.  Do you participate in the expat gatherings in Manta?  I can't wait to meet all my new friends there.

LAN airlines is starting on the Quito-Manta route, and has introductory promotional pricing at $37-38 per single trip.
all info on their website.
failing that, Guayaquil is your best bet.
