Remuneration structure in Colombia

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

Understanding the remuneration structure when living and working in Colombia will help you better navigate professional life. In order to help other expats and soon-to-be expats grasp everything from gross pay to net pay, we invite you to share your experience.

How is your remuneration structured in Colombia: basic salary, commissions, 13th month, etc.?

What are the common or mandatory allowances included such as transports, health insurance, pension contributions…?

What are the taxes and social contributions to be considered, especially if deduction is made at source?

What is the regular salary payment frequency in Colombia: monthly, bi-montlhy, weekly…?

Is it acceptable or common to negotiate salary or benefits?

Are there any specific differences in remuneration structure between expats and locals?

Share your insights and experience.

Thank you for your contribution.

Unless you work for the government of your home country or an oil or mining, or tech company, in which case you will. be in Colombia on a temporary project/ assignment basis  or to train locals to take your position, you will not be in Colombia competimg with  locals and you will be   paid  your home country salary  plus an uplift for overseas and living expenses.

Profesdionals or any workers  dont just," show up" to compete with locals for $400.to $1000 US a month jobs.

Quite the opposite . Colombians in the past have been relocating and escsping to North América, Australia and Europe allthoiugh these opportunities are drying up ow  except for positions for people with experience  in health care and very specialzed technical fields, and maybe the trades.

Expats who open businesses in Colombia would also be interested in these subjects plus pay structure and benefits  if they were employing locals
