"Citizens of Australia, Canada and USA traveling to Brazil for tourism or business purposes can now apply for an electronic Visit Visa.

With e-Visa, candidates do not need to appear at the Brazilian Consulate to submit their application. The e-visa is a multi-entry visa that allows stays of up to 90 days and is valid for up to 5 years.

Passengers from those countries arriving in Brazil before April 10, 2024, do not need to qualify."

But dang!  Both my wife and I applied and spent the $80.90 each online.  I applied on 12/18 and she applied on 12/20.  The last time that I checked the status of the e-visa was that it was still pending with no ETA.  It's very clear that the e-visa process needs more ironing.

Great that I don't have to worry about my carnival visit but I plan to visit a few more times this year.  I hope that I won't have to shell out another fee for my entries after April 2024.

@rraypo, this e-visa process is definitely generating a lot of uncertainty for tourists.

However, I am reminded that this process back and forth is somewhat similar to the 2/4 Brazilian Samba.  2 steps forward followed by 2 steps backwards and you end up exactly where you started.

Better start practicing samba now... ;-)

it will also do good things for your Portuguese.  Beth Carvalho, Clara Nunes, and Martinho da Villa certainly helped keep my Portuguese alive and kickin' during the years I was out of Brazil.  Luiz Gonzaga, too, but he definitely didn't do sambas. 😂

Cool! That site had not been updated when I posted. I looked there for verification, not really trusting my first media reports. Thanks for that update

My Brazillian lawyer thinks they will probably scrap the whole ill-conceived, nonsensical,  difficult to implement, visa idea. He also said 90 day extensions are no longer getting rubber-stamped. I will verify and post my findings next week or so when i ask at PF interview. i learned this watching his weekly live youtube Q&A which is a cool opportunity to stay current.

Chances are that your lawyer is right. 

I'm sure that contracting the process out seemed like a great idea:  the consulates are probably understaffed after the pandemic, Australia, Canada, the United States, and Japan are expensive countries to staff up in, so having someone else do it with their staff and collecting part of the fee on each eVisa issued probably seemed like free money.  Until the contractor couldn't execute.  And then couldn't execute again.  And then again.

The consulates already have the systems in place for issuing normal VIVIS visas:  it's the same system they use to issue VITEMs, and it was always intended to back up the eVisa process anyway.  The biggest hurdle now is probably staffing up.  There may be some egos involved, too.

I think that a 90 day visitor visa will be provided at the Brazil port of entry until April 10, 2024.

Since I am planning on visiting Brazil often, I have opted to get the e-visa and this is valid for 10 year.

The visitor visa will be granted until April 10, 2024 - after that the e-visa will be required.
