Private Health Insurance

What is your price range? What are your expectations of care? For me continuity of care,  I.e. centrally stored access to digital medical information, and equal standards of infrastructure found in, say, an HMO like Kaiser Permanente in California are my expectations. For these two metrics my wife and I chose Prevent Senior.

For my wife and I, Prevent Senior provides an acceptable level of care here in Sao Paulo. But they may not have the network in Rio.

    My wife and I are looking for private health insurance to cover major medical and surgeries. We can handle out of pocket expense for routine doctor or specialist visits. Any recommendations. AmerSul, Unimed or any others? We are retired expats with legal residency in Brazil already.

Sul America. Charges premium, the best. Once the Care Facility identifiies the Carrier, you are taken care of your admission immediately. A taxi driver of mine, his wife needed urgent admission at the A.C.Camargo Cancer Center, and she got admitted in the next day. AC Camargo is a top notch Cancer Treatment Hospital, in Sao Paulo.

Affordable. In Sao Paulo only...   Prevent Senior.  They also run their clinic networks, and own a chain of private hospitals, named Sancta Maggiore.   They specialize, as the name implies,, in Senior Citizens. Run Wellness programs of all kinds. Regular checkups.    Recommended by a family member, both chain smokers since I was a kid. 

Do no Recommend.  Note Dame Intermedica.  Nor anything owned by the Grupo D'Orr who owns the Hospital Sao Luiz Chains. 

04/10/24 These carriers advertise on expat.com, and presumably can provide the coverage needed for the visa.  It's a good idea to get a policy that you can cancel on request with no penalty, so that you can buy more reasonable local coverage once you settle in:
