Heating pad - 220VAC

mberigan

My old joints hurt and baths [in tubs] and heating pads seem to be of little interest to Brazilians. I'd simply bring a Walgreens heating pad here if it weren't for the fact that I've never found a nice 220VAC product - except for an odd full-body sized thing as stiff as a board. I'd love to have a supple pag to wrap around my knees.

If I build a house (still pondering the possibility) there WILL BE a solar water heater and a tub. I'm also pondering a Finnish sauna - there's nothing as good.

But in the mean time, any suggestions for a simple heating pad solution?

This is what we use ....just fill it with water and put it in the sun .....

I just bought an adapter for the heating pad I brought with me.
There are gel packs that can be microwaved or frozen.

As a stopgap, I recall my grandmother using a small towel soaked in hot water.

Google DIY Rice heating pad.

My sister uses these all the time.

Basically, take a kitchen towel folded in half, sewn up and filled with white rice. Heat in microwave for 1-3 minutes (you’ll need to experiment  with the time.) Probably need about a kilo of rice, needle and thread and a kitchen towel to complete the project. All usually found in any Brazilian home.

Good Luck
