You haven't screwed anything up yet.

Go to the website of the Brazilian Consulate General in Chicago, and apply for a VITEM XI visa.   You'll probably need to postpone your departure for a few weeks, but things should go more smoothly when you get to Brazil.

Were you married in the US?  If so, ask about registering your marriage at the Consulate when you're in touch with them.  That will make things easier here, too.

They said I can register in Brazil as long as it has apostille.

Also, so is it impossible to do everything while living in Brazil at this point? (I go to brazil and start everything while there)

Do you have your FBI Background Check?  That's usually the long pole in the tent. 

If you do, if you have all of the documents that the Federal Police require, and they're perfect, they should accept your application.   Have Sworn Translations of all documents (this can be done in Brazil), and have your spouse go to the Federal Police with you.  Good luck.

The FP will be looking for a family reunion visa (VITEM XI), but if you enter the country as a tourist,  they'll probably still accept your application, regardless.

FBI Background Check - should have apostille from US Department of State

Birth Certificate  - should have apostille from issuing state

Marriage Certificate  - should have apostille from issuing state

Passport - no apostille required

You shouldn't have to submit your Driver's License to the Federal Police; later, you can submit it to your state DETRAN (with a Sworn Translation, but no apostille required)  to  be issued a Brazilian Driver's License.

You shouldn't have to submit your Social Security Card to anyone.

*ETA* "Proof of Residence" means proof of residence in Brazil  - usually a utility bill in your name, or a lease.  Something in your spouse's name will probably suffice.
