Onward travel ticket

I don’t know about Brazil (or any other country), but I’ve read in a forum that immigration officers in Thailand know about these services and when in doubt, will check if a reservation actually exists.

It's not just a country's immigration regulations one must consider.

Here in Vietnam there is no proof of onward travel required, yet numerous forum members have reported their (final before arrival) airline insisting on such. The airlines logic is that if one is denied entry, it is the responsibility of the airline to return the traveller to their prior departure point.

Within the past couple of years at least two members with only one-way tickets have reported their airline allowing them to continue on to Vietnam provided the passenger agrees to sign a waiver releasing the airline of this responsibility.

On the Thailand forum members have reported using an inexpensive prepaid cross-border bus/train ticket as being accepted as proof of onward travel, provided the bus/train departure date is earlier than the expiry date of their visa.

Members of expat.com who intend to travel with only a one-way ticket are encouraged to check with both their destination country's immigration rules and with their airline prior to their intended departure date.

FWIW when I permanently moved here for good three years ago, my wife and I only had a one way tickets to GIG.

No questions were asked by the airline at the departure airport, except for "do you have a visa sir ?" Now in 2024 Brasil did not require visa's from Canadians to travel there, but I guess it's hard to break the habit of asking.

I had no issues with entering immigration at GIG either, they just looked at my RNE card and let me thru. Having said that I've been thru the immigration system coming and going 100+ times, so, I doubt they'd have ask me anything as it is. But, when I was entering as a tourist for years before, I was also never asked for proof of onward tickets either that I can remember.

I would not use the fake ticket like the one you mentioned as it's a well known for what it is. I'd just tell the immigration officer you are going to file for your VITEM visa after you get settled in.

If your RNE/CRNM (whatever you had before) gets mentioned, what they should do is issue you an official 10 day summons to go to a PF station (probably the DELEMIG location for your state IMHO) and file a written legal defence as to why they should not cancel it permanently. As it has many been years however since you let the 24 month entry period lapse, as you stated, this may have already happened by due course, I have no real clue.
