Updating RNM with New Passport – Process in Brazil

Shahbaz Shaikh786

Hi everyone,

I returned to Brazil with a new passport, but my RNM (Registro Nacional Migratório) is still linked to my old passport. There was no issue or fine at immigration.

I’d like to know the correct process to update this with the Polícia Federal — whether it’s just a data update or if a new CRNM card is required, and which option to select when booking the appointment.

Appreciate any guidance from those who have done this recently.

If and when you're required to renew your CRNM you'll use your current passport as part of your renewal documentation, because that's your current home country ID doc.  Until then, you have a current CRNM and a current passport in the same name, so you're fine.

@abthree is exactly correct. I have renewed my British passport twice now, while living in Brazil, and I still have my permanent visa, property records, powers of attorney and numerous other documents referencing my old passports, apart from numerous overseas trips with my original permanent visa card.

They are all still valid and allowed because my old passports were used to confirm my ID (for example) at that time. No need to update anything...
