Retirement visa: renewal

Thx, that is very useful information. I have tried to make an appointment here (https://servicos.pf.gov.br/agenda-web/acessar), but I need to enter a Código de solicitação ou Requerimento. Apparently I should receive such a code once I make an appointment, but apparently it’s also necessary to get an appointment…? Do you (or anyone else) remember how that works ?

And yet another question: unfortunately, I was a bit lazy and let it expire. I’m not in Brazil right now, so I haven’t overstayed, not even for a day. Since I’m able to return to Brazil on the visa-exempt status, do you think the Polícia Federal might ‘overlook’ the fact that it’s already expired (by a few weeks), and renew it anyway? Or do I have to get a new one?

In my opinion your visa has ceased to exist, therefore it cannot be renewed and you must make a fresh application.

Many years ago a friend of mine allowed his investor visa to lapse in a similar way, and he was refused permission to renew it...

Yes, probably. I will probably give it a try anyway, I have nothing to lose other than the fee. And if I have to get a new one, it’s not a huge deal, my situation hasn’t changed, I’ll just update the docs from two years ago.

So have you gone through this process recently? What is the second requirement about (bank statements)? Do they wanna see the deposits  in your account (presumably back home) from social security or other sources, e.g. to check your income?
