What is the Rainy Season like throughout Mexico?

This part of Mexico is on the edge of hurricane season, usually it skips us but there are places where it is much more likely.

As far as rain goes, it varies. Rarely do we have a whole over cast day mostly it is rain  followed by sun. The rain could be a female type , just steady off and on rain, or a more male rain of pounding down pours. Why do I say female and male,? because it is a native term which fits quite well. The terms are used with native Americans and understood here also.
It is supposed to rain every day this week, and that occurs mostly in the late afternoon and night otherwise it is sunny. The weather is similar all down the coast. The female rains are not a big deal, but the male rains can flood streets very quickly . They also have increased wind force. I was in a hotel in Cancun during a very impressive male rain that drove rain beyond the downstairs restaurant sliders lapping like the sea into the room about 2-3 inches, and pounding on the glass.

This is pretty much what I was hoping to hear.  I don't mind the rain, especially when it is warm enough that it feels like walking through a warm shower.  But I don't enjoy completely overcast whether for many days in a row. 

I used to live in Tucson, AZ where we also referred to strong rains as male and light rains as female sometimes.  Monsoon season (in the summer) were the male rains, strong and quick with sun most of the day.  Female were the gentle winter rains.  Very similar to what you describe.
