I've been here 10 years and it's definitely been tough at times - especially during the first few years. Getting established and finding a good job took a while, even though my native language is English. Looking back, I would have rented for longer instead of rushing to buy a house. I would have also done more research on where to settle and perhaps picked somewhere with warmer winters! But all that said, there are so many good things about Northern Ontario and Canada generally. I love the lakes and the vast open spaces and have always found the people to be welcoming to newcomers.
