Planning to move to Turkey

Dear Members.

Im planning to move to Turkey. I would need a solid advice from you.

Which city is most livable, lovable and economicall.

Should have good colleges/Universities thought in English.

I appreciate your advice and guidance.

Since I am a retired man and have no interest in University life, I can only give you my experience of living here in Turkey over the past 9 months. I chose, and am really happy with living in Kusadasi, Turkey. It, to me, is like living in a dream. I came from the USA in July of last year and I can say my world is completely different in the way I live my life. I have made more new and good friends here in the last 9 months than in the last 40 in the USA. I am talking about friends that would be there for me in case of any kind of emergency at any time of day. The people here are incredibly warm and friendly. People will stop and help you when they see you need any kind of assistance whether it be helping you with translation or carrying packages to your car. I find the cost of living here 1/4 to 1/3 less than what I was used to in the USA. Housing costs, utilities,  food, and services are so affordable. I don't know if you are familiar with Kusadasi but it is a Tourist city by the Aegean Sea. If I was you I would do some research on google to familiarize yourself. Before I came I hired a lawyer and a real estate broker which were invaluable in helping me get settled in Turkey. If you are interested I can give you their names. Both are highly experienced and recommended and I found their services to be extremely affordable.

İzmir area is pretty good. The third largest city in Turkey. By the Aegean sea across Greek islands. Cesme and Kusadasi are close by with great beaches. There is U. S. Embassy in the city. Many Americans live and work here. We play football on weekend, some of them pro basketball players. Supermarkets are similar to U. S. But still ferry to Greek islands to shop import like Spirits of course you need to be U. S. Passport holder do do not give up your Passport. You can teach at private schools. English spoken around. Very liberal city, college girls even have shorter skirts than LA, there are sinagogues and Churches, Fresh seafood and booze by seawall not to mention the most beautiful Turkish girls live in İzmir. No hijabs but short and miniskirts, by the Beach they are topless. Way better than LA if you have income from The United States. There are no jobs here, huge unemployment and pay you  shit if you can find a job. Mexico even pays better than Turkey. Thing twice you may find better place to work but nice to retire here,

I am living in Izmir For me the most livable city is Izmir, cheapar than Istanbul and less crowded. If you decide to move to Izmir I can answer your questions.

@dncole4156 Sorry Dennis I overlooked this message. I really appreciate your suggestion, even I want to live in places like this, provided my kid should have a college to study. Probably i will travel to Turkey in this month, if i happen to come to Kusadasi, i will like to meet you.

@Rabbani Shaik I'm not very well versed in the cities of Turkey, but the city we intend to move to eventually is Eskisehir as it was recommended by mother who resides in Kusadasi. There is a multitude of factors drawing us to Eskisehir:

  • The city population of roughly 850k is large enough to be engaging but not enough to be a hectic, stressful and traffic congested battle.
  •   There are three prominent universities in Eskisehir: Eskisehir Technical University, Anadolu University and Eskisehir Osmangazi University (https://studyinturkey.gov.tr/StudyInTurkey/Universities).  This likely offers a higher percentage of English speakers and progressively thinking people.  My wife does not know Turkish but I am proficient in conversational Turkish with limited vocabulary.  My heritage is Turkish but I was born in the US. 
  • The city is very modern and clean and offers amenities offering a good quality of life.  There is a beautiful, calm river cutting through the city creating an entertainment district. 
  • The climate offers a good distribution of 4 seasons meaning it has a robust winter.  This is important for us as we cannot tolerate the heat of summer very much.
  • Cost of living is low relatively speaking.  Conduct cost of living research on Numbeo.c om.
  • The city is centrally located in Turkey but it's a 2 hour drive to Bursa and about a 3.5 hour drive to Istanbul.

Hello Rabbani, nice to get a response. I've noticed that many on this forum are not very engaged. You've posted quiet a bit with substantive questions/topics which is a good thing. I've not had much success in exchanging information, many do not respond to my posts or my inquiries. 

And, yes it is called the Venice of Turkey. We targeted the city primarily because of its cold climate but also because of the quality of life it offers. It is not a coastal town so probably many do not consider it but like I said, the coast near Bursa is only around 2 hours.   

Regardless, much success in finding a town to settle to and to your future pursuits!

I would love to het together with you have a cup of coffee or dinner together and discuss your possible move to Turkey. I continue to love it hear and I am sure you will also. I can't tell you how many people I met here who have visited on vacation, fell in love with the area and decided to stay.
