first time in Riyhad

I will be in Riyhad for at least 2 years to work as Cardiologist at Habib medical group. I am completely unaware of the style of life in Riyhad. My background is only the information about well known cultural differences between this place and western countries. I am from Italy btw. I will have an accomodation given by the Hospital and the rest is up to me. So, every information and suggestion are very welcome. My name is Roberto, my age is 55 yo. Thank you to all will give me a feed back.

Hey Roberto... main issue is social life which is very limited to own friends .... If u have any other specific questions pls. do ask.... And yeah make sure the damn money u negotiate, is high enough to help u stop kicking urself atleast once a month... ;>

I am arriving soon to Riyadh as well for a year as a RN in the ER at KFSHRC. I am from the United States and am very excited to start this new adventure. I am 45 yo. My name is Mary.  The hospital is providing accomodations for me as well. I am sure for all expats.

Welcome to the Kingdom, Omamar!  I'm sure you'll be fine--there's a large contingent of western nurses at King Faisal and they'll show you the ropes.

I am excited and scared a whole gammit of feelings right now until I get settled in. Just trying to get all the "last minute" things done before I leave and think of what I can bring in 2 suitcases that I will need for the next year. hahaha

I remember the pressure about the two suitcases lol  But most likely you'll be able to go home in six months and bring back two *more* suitcases!  It's amazing how much you can accumulate just always bringing two full suitcases back :)

My advice to you is to be sure to bring any electronics you need (expensive here--never any sales like we have in the States) and make-up, which is expensive here. 

Also, shoes!  There are a zillion shoe stores here but mostly stock super fancy high, high heels--not much of a selection of casual or comfortable work shoes or sandals.

- Saudi is mostly conservative, but has been going through major changes lately
- most people are nice welcoming and open
- It has many of the things you would find in developed countries (no cinema, alcohol, or pornography)
-I've had really bad, OK, and good experiences with Alhabib, but non of them had to do with cardiology.

I think you left out the word 'NOT'; ie. 'It does NOT have many of the things you would find in developed countries (no cinema, alcohol or pornography.')

Let me add, in addition, you're not able to 'mingle' with any member of the opposite sex to whom you are not related, so definitely NOT like developed countries.
